Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico: A massive oil spill from a British Petroleum (BP) drilling rig occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in the area of Louisiana and Texas only 5 years removed from Hurricane Katrina and is be swept toward Florida by the ocean’s currents. Some people have argued that President Obama, like President Bush during Katrina, has been too slow to respond to this crisis. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama has responded slowly to the crisis and why? What do you think can be done in the future to minimize or mitigate this problem? What steps do you plan to take to either seize the opportunities or overcome the challenges? Fiscal Responsibility: The Black community seems to lack the basic, comprehensive financial principles that other communities may appear to have often leading to problematic financial decisions. There have been examples of regular Black citizen as well as celebrity Black citizens who have struggled with managing their finances soundly. What steps are you taking to strengthen your financial education and why? What steps do you believe the Black community can take to increase its financial literacy and to ensure that knowledge is passed to successive generations?
