Education Programs
Our initiatives in this area revolve around Tutoring, SAT PREP, and Scholarships.
TUTORING
The tutoring programs are geared towards elementary age youth in the areas of reading and math. We currently have three tutorial sites within the District of Columbia each with between 25-40 students participating. One tutor is assigned as few as three and as many as five students. Our tutorial program focuses on math and reading between the first through sixth grades. The unique thing about our program is that it is designed to help students who are falling behind and those that are excelling.
If you would like to volunteer as a tutor, please click here and complete the form. Someone from our volunteers committee will be in touch with you within 48 to 72 hours. Please note that any volunteers, who come into contact with any of our youth, must go through our background check process.
SAT PREPARATION
We offer free SAT preparatory courses to juniors and seniors in high school in the Greater Washington DC area on an annual basis. This program has been possible due to the generous support of our partner, The Princeton Review, who has assisted by funding the cost of the supplies and the instructors.
The application package can be filled out in 15 minutes and the essay can be completed in under an hour. Please note that there is a three stage submission process. Applications must be sent by e-mail to education@100blackmendc.org in order to be considered. A signed hard copy of the application is to be mailed to our postal address. The official transcript should follow 2 weeks later. All applications MUST be received by COB Monday, June 23, 2008. Early submissions are appreciated. To register for the SAT PREP courses, please start by downloading the application by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.
